Two officers shot in New York state; suspect killed
Two police officers investigating an attempted carjacking in upstate New York were wounded by a suspect before returning fire, hitting the person, authorities said.
Troy Police Captain Dan DeWolf told CBS News that around 11:30 Saturday night, an officer recognized a person of interest in an earlier attempted carjacking, saw the person had a weapon and called for backup.
When the second officer arrived, the suspect opened fire, striking both officers, DeWolf said. The officers fired back, hitting the suspect.
One officer was hit in the upper torso and the other in the leg, according to DeWolf, who said the wounds were not considered to be life-threatening.
The suspect later died from his injuries, DeWolf said. The suspect has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
