A big, lovely trove of new Microsoft hardware could be coming in October
The tech rumor mill always cracks up around this time of year as the big firms gear up for the next round of annual announcements – but this year Microsoft are getting involved.
Chinese site WPDang, as well as The Verge, are reporting that Microsoft is planning to announce two new Lumia smartphones, a Surface Pro 4 and a Microsoft Band 2 wearable at a live event in October.
On top of this there could be at least one surprise – with reports currently suggesting a slimmer Xbox One and maybe even a Surface Mini.
A Mini was originally planned to be launched last year alongside the Surface Pro 3, but it was scrapped just weeks before the announcement. Now would seem a good time to revive the idea, should Microsoft be ready to push hardware again.
2015 so far has been all about software for the company, with the launch of Windows 10 being the focus of energy. The suggestion is that Microsoft want to get their platform in order first, before pushing ahead with the devices to populate it.
This rumored event sounds like it could be the next step in that plan, with Microsoft shifting up a gear to take on the likes of Apple and Samsung. We’ve already seen rumors of a Surface Mobile this week too.
